We’ve made some changes recently…

February 2026

You may have noticed a few changes recently, and now we can share what’s been happening behind the scenes.

Welcome to our new website – we hope it feels clear, accessible and easy to use, whether you’re looking for support for yourself, or for someone you care about.

This year marks 40 years since our organisation was founded in 1986 as Bristol Crisis Service for Women. During that time we’ve grown and adapted in response to what people tell us they need. Demand for our services continues to rise, in the past 12 months alone our charity has supported thousands of people through our helpline and text support, our peer support service and our training offer.

Over the past year, we’ve listened carefully to feedback from the people who use our services and our wider community. What we heard was clear: support needs to be easier to find and easier to access.

That feedback has shaped several changes. We’ve refreshed our website to make information clearer and quicker to navigate. We’ve extended our service opening times, so more people can reach us when they need to. We’ve also updated our name, Self Injury Support is becoming Sift, to make it easier for people to reach out without feeling they need to fit a label.

What hasn’t changed is our purpose. We’re dedicated to sifting out the stigma around self-harm and willing to talk about the things that others aren’t.

With these changes we aim to be more reachable, more responsive, and more sustainable for the future. We remain committed to providing confidential, non-judgemental, evidence-based support for people who self-harm and those who care for them

If you’ve been affected by self-harm, you are not alone. You can access free, confidential support through our Listening Services and explore our Resource Library for practical guides and information co-produced with people who have lived experience.

Let’s make sure anyone experiencing self-harm knows they’re not alone.

Let’s change the story around self-harm, together.

We need your help…

As we move through the recent changes, we’re aware that you may have found our site via an old link that we might not be aware of. We’re trying our best to ensure that all directory and online references to our charity are up to date, but if you find one that needs some attention, please contact us.
