OUR Team
Our services are co-designed by people with lived experience, ensuring they truly meet the needs of those who use them
Staff and Volunteers
Our team brings together a wide range of skills, experiences, and perspectives. Many have lived experience of self-harm, either personally or through supporting someone we love. This insight is at the heart of our work, helping us create services that are not only evidence-based but also compassionate and understanding.
Alongside this, we draw on professional knowledge in areas such as safeguarding, counselling, research, and communications. Together, this mix of lived and learned expertise means we can provide safe, effective support while always keeping the voices of people affected by self-harm central.
Our volunteers are the heart of Sift. Every day, they give their time and compassion to ensure anyone affected by self-harm has a safe and understanding place to turn. Through our helpline, text, and email services, they listen with patience and warmth, offering empathy, not judgement, and kindness instead of quick fixes.
Some volunteer because they know how it feels to be alone, others to give back the support they once received, and many simply to make a difference. Whatever their reason, each volunteer helps someone feel less isolated, more hopeful, and more connected.
“This work is challenging and meaningful, and witnessing the positive change our support brings is incredibly rewarding.”
Trustees
Our trustees bring a wide range of expertise, all with a shared commitment to Sift’s mission. If you’re interested in contributing to our mission, learn more about joining our board of trustees.
Eilish Sorohan - Chair of Trustees
“I’ve worked in the non-profit sector for nearly a decade, specialising in project management, relationship building, and fundraising. Having lived with self-injury for over 10 years, I was inspired to join Sift to help others find the understanding I once needed. It’s been a fantastic experience, and I’m proud of all we achieve.”
Stephen Finch - Trustee
“I became a Trustee because I care deeply about the issues Sift supports people with and wanted to find a meaningful way to give something back. I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring my experience in communications and public relations, shaped by working with people from diverse backgrounds around the world, and to play a small part in helping Sift grow and continue its vital work.”
Lily Wonham - Trustee
“I began volunteering on the helpline and TESS services before becoming a Trustee. I’m continually inspired by the dedication of everyone who works and volunteers here. It’s an honour to play a part in ensuring Sift continues to deliver vital support and fulfils its mission for those affected by self-harm.”
